I was a sailor
You were an island in my sights
A tempest tore a line in the water
And I crossed to the other side
I saw you dancing
You didn't see me in my boat
The rings upon your fingers
Oh how they would jangle on the shore
I started sinking
Where the water meets the sand
I can't stay here forever, baby
Why don't you understand?
(intro/broke-down hook)
-VERSE 1-
Summertime came and went
You told me I would be your friend
Always
Always
-VERSE 2-
Hey baby, that's my favorite band
Maybe I could be your man
Do you like it when I touch you?
If not, that's cool
-PRE-CHORUS-
It just keeps getting hotter
Year after year
Don't worry 'bout the weather
Just don't forget the beer
-CHORUS-
You and me
We could slip on down to the deep black sea
You could take my suit away from me
Move that feather from your nose
Wrap that attitude up in some clean white clothes
You and me in the deep black sea
(BROKE-DOWN HOOK)
-VERSE 3-
Heat is for the summertime
Blues…for some other time
Can’t believe you’re hanging out with me
-VERSE 4-
But now we’re lacking looks
I took my bookmarks from your books
And now the songs we used to dance to make us cry
(PRE-CHORUS)
(CHORUS)
(BROKE-DOWN HOOK)
Take me by the hand my darling
I can understand if you would like
to go away...I wish you would.
I'm talking about the way you go away says something
I can't understand it but I want to.
And I...wanna make it better
Take me by the hand my darling
And take some time to find out what you want to say, and say it
You're talking like a man who can't explain his feelings
An old trench coat, a porcelain-chested knight
And I...wanna learn a lesson
And I...wanna make it better
This is our first release ever. Three of these songs ended up being on our Weekdays EP (Hiccup was renamed to Siren). We named it Potent in reference to these tracks having potential.
Listening back, it seems so far away since we've grown so much. It's also strange to be taken back in time to a place where we had very little to worry about–we were just having fun, creating, and becoming better and better friends.
Here's the original description:
"A demo of potential songs in the works. All in development by two young musicians in Dallas, Texas...a passionate, engaging singer definitely needed. The search is on for singers and music makers, want to join us and help build the rest of this album?
Chase is a dear friend and a production wiz. His passion for music (and much more) spills out all over the place and makes a huge mess :D. His talents really shine through on these two tracks! Catamaran
